From Fox News: An illegal immigrant in Indiana was arrested after he allegedly caused a fatal semi-truck crash, according to officials.

The Portage Police Department said Broko Stankovic was driving on U.S. Highway 20 in Indiana on Wednesday when traffic came to a stop due to a Ram Sprinter turning near Douglas Drive, but the suspect didn’t appear to slow down in his semi-truck, according to FOX 32.

Officials said Stankovic attempted to make a hard evasive left turn when he entered opposite traffic and hit a Subaru Crosstrek.

The semi-truck jackknifed as a result and hit the Ram Sprinter, which was pushed into a road sign. Police said the 54-year-old driver of the Subaru died at the scene.

WGNTV reported:

The semi-truck collided with a Subaru, driven by Jeffrey Eberly, 54, of Mishawaka, head-on.

The collision caused “catastrophic” damage to the Subaru and Eberly was pronounced dead at the scene.

Law enforcement said Stankovic, 41, only had a regular Illinois driver’s license, but did not possess a valid CDL license. Instead, he was driving with a suspended Illinois CDL, which belonged to a family member.

He allegedly told police that he owned both the truck, and the company, called Move RPM, Inc.. However, the company reportedly was not even registered with the Department of Transportation.

Officials said Stankovic possessed a suspended Illinois CDL, which was a family member’s, but didn’t have a valid CDL himself. His company wasn’t registered with the Department of Transportation, they added.

Stankovic was hauled off to the Porter County Hail, and ICE has filed a detainer on him, due to him being in the country illegally. He is being held without bond.

He has been charged with felony reckless homicide and felony criminal recklessness resulting in death.

Allegedly, Stankovic is from Serbia.  It is unclear when or how he entered the United States, or how long he has been driving semi-trucks.

A Facebook page called Protecting K9 Heroes paid tribute to the man killed in the horrific crash. The post reads:
