From Fox News: Two teenagers charged in connection with an attempted carjacking and brutal beating of a former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) staffer earlier this month have been released from youth custody.

A 15-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy, who were charged with unarmed carjacking days after the attack, have been given lighter restrictions.

Since their arrest, the suspects had been held at D.C.’s Youth Services Center (YSC), where juveniles are placed in secure detention by court order. According to reports, Judge Kendra D. Briggs, who was nominated by then-President Joe Biden in 2021, ruled that one of the teens would be sent to a youth shelter while the other would be granted home arrest.

While the teens are being released from the YSC, they are still subject to curfews, weekly drug tests and electronic monitoring, NBC4 Washington reported.

The attack against Edward Coristine, a 19-year-old former DOGE staffer and software engineer nicknamed “Big Balls,” happened on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at approximately 3:00 a.m., as Coristine and a female friend were standing next to their vehicle.

The young thugs attacked Coristine as he fought them off, leaving him beaten and bloodied.

The incident infuriated President Donald Trump who slammed city officials and warned, “they’re going to straighten their act out… in terms of government and protection.. or we’re going to have to federalize and run it the way it’s supposed to be run.”

Trump ultimately did take federal control over the city’s law enforcement, and is now working to clean up the crime from the streets.

ABOUT THIS JUDGE: Kendra Briggs, 50, has been an associate judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia since 2023. She previously was an assistant United States attorney from 2010 to 2023. Briggs was nominated by Joe Biden in November 2021, and approved by the U.S. Senate by a “voice vote” in December 2022.
