From Fox News: Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who voted to pass the One Big Beautiful Bill Act in the House last month, slammed a provision of the proposal on Tuesday, noting that if she had realized it was in the measure, she would have voted against passage.
The provision Greene is sounding the alarm about would significantly restrict states from regulating artificial intelligence for a decade.
“Except as provided in paragraph (2), no State or political subdivision thereof may enforce, during the 10-year period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act, any law or regulation of that State or a political subdivision thereof limiting, restricting, or otherwise regulating artificial intelligence models, artificial intelligence systems, or automated decision systems entered into interstate commerce,” the provision reads, in part.
Greene took to X to express her opposition and frustration, admitting that she did not realize the provision was in the bill.
“Full transparency, I did not know about this section on pages 278-279 of the OBBB that strips states of the right to make laws or regulate AI for 10 years. I am adamantly OPPOSED to this and it is a violation of state rights and I would have voted NO if I had known this was in there,” Greene wrote on X.
“We have no idea what AI will be capable of in the next 10 years and giving it free rein and tying states hands is potentially dangerous. This needs to be stripped out in the Senate. When the OBBB comes back to the House for approval after Senate changes, I will not vote for it with this in it. We should be reducing federal power and preserving state power. Not the other way around. Especially with rapidly developing AI that even the experts warn they have no idea what it may be capable of,” she added.

In a second post, she wrote: “The One Big Beautiful Bill should be about cutting taxes, securing the border, and unleashing American energy, NOT surrendering state power to the AI industry for 10 years.
“We can beat China without selling out our values.
“I will NEVER support destroying federalism.”

Another Trump loyalist, Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., has also joined the list of supporters speaking out about the bill. Perry said Elon Musk was “right to call out House Leadership” over the bill earlier this week.
“I wish I had a nickel for every time the @freedomcaucus sounded the alarm and nobody listened, only to find out the hard way we were right all along. We expect MASSIVE improvements from the Senate before it gets back to the House,” Perry said.
Perry voted in favor of the bill.
His comments against the bill prompted a backlash. Huff Post called it out in an article titled, “Rep. Scott Perry Flamed For Publicly Trashing A Bill He Voted For.” Huff Post followed up with a post on X that said, “The Pennsylvania congressman seemed more interested in staying in Elon Musk’s good graces than pleasing Donald Trump.”
Perry responded, explaining the process.
He wrote on X: “First of all, @HuffPost: you did not contact me or my staff. To you, @RepSwalwell, and anyone else jumping on this nonsense bandwagon, I publicly stated that this bill was far from good or ready. We got it as far as we could, and if we waited any longer, we risked it getting worse. This bill ensures taxes don’t increase, and without it, they will, which is why I voted for it – with the stipulation that the Senate gets a crack to do the right thing. If it comes back to the House better, great; if not, then I’ll have serious doubts about voting for it. I’ve been transparent from the outset, @RepSwalwell; maybe you should be more concerned with your ‘close and personal relationship’ with a Chinese communist spy.”

He also posted about AI, writing: “How will robots destroy America? One byte at a time. AI has no place in the U.S. government.”
