New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is being lambasted on social media over her brazen claim that subway crime is DOWN after an illegal alien man burned a woman to death on a NYC subway train Sunday morning.
After setting the sleeping woman on fire, the man, identified as Sebastian Zapeta, 33, from Guatemala, walked off the train, calmly sat down on a bench, and just watched the victim burn to death.
He was arrested later on Sunday.
Despite the horrific nature of the crime, and without making any mention of the suspect’s identity, NY Gov. Kathy Hochul brazenly released a statement claiming that subway crime is down.
“A suspect is now in custody for the horrific incident on the F train. Our brand-new security cameras helped law enforcement find the suspect and arrest him,” she wrote.
“Make no mistake: any crime is one too many, even with subway crime going down. We are continuing to surge personnel and resources to make our subways safer,” Hochul added.

It gets worse. Just hours after the horrifying crime, Holchul literally posted photos of herself in the subway and boasted, “In March, I took action to make our subways safer for the millions of people who take the trains each day. Since deploying the @NationalGuardNY to support @NYPDnews and @MTA
safety efforts and adding cameras to all subway cars, crime is going down, and ridership is going up.”
That post got slapped with a “Community Note” on X, which reads, “A sleeping woman aboard a subway car has died after being intentionally set on fire at Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue subway station.”

Social media users have erupted over Hochul’s statement. Below are just a few of the comments pouring in Sunday evening.
“You’re going to take a lap RIGHT NOW regarding subway crime? Wow. But since we’re here – what about the crime of entering this country illegally? Is that one crime too many or do we have to wait until more people are hurt or worse?”

“I live in NY. ITS THE WORST its been since the 80s. Anyone will attest to that who lives here and is being honest. DAILEY occurrences of fights stabbing shooting pushing on train tracks robbing and tons goes unreported since most perps get set free.”

“Was not one crime. I live IN NYC, and the crimes and stabbing in the subways are daily. Queens to Manhattan subways and trains are a disaster. No Change, no Police and no consequences to the Criminals.”
