Democrat Socialist Zohran Mamdani repeatedly told New Yorkers he would provide free bus rides if New Yorkers would vote for him as mayor. Just days after his inauguration, the subway prices and bus fares just went up.
From the New York Post: The MTA’s latest rate hike went into effect Sunday — and exasperated straphangers forced to fork over even the 10 more cents per ride were shaking their heads at the extra expense.
Subway rides will now cost $3 per swipe — up from the $2.90 established in 2023.
“I just know it’s gonna add up,” said Mayan Crampton, 23, who regularly commutes into Manhattan from his New Jersey home in Hoboken.
Phaedra Phaded, 33, who regularly commutes from Chinatown in Manhattan, said, “It’s f–ked.
The report quotes multiple people who are upset over the price increase for the subway rides.
In a separate report, the Breitbart confirmed that the fares increased to $3 for both the NYC subway and the bus system.
The recent price hike had been in the works long before openly socialist Zohran Mamdani became Mayor of New York, with the MTA board proposing and voting to increase the fare by four percent every two years due to raised operating costs.
Mamdani is still reportedly vowing to make the city’s bus system free – and claims he will pay for the $700 million cost by raising taxes on corporations and high-earning city residents.
