OP-ED BY JOHN LOFTUS, EDITOR AT LARGE FOR DAILY CALLER: Another Trump-era culture war victory has come in the most unlikely of places: SNL.
“Saturday Night Live” officially introduced five new comedians Tuesday, set to join the ranks of the “Not Ready For Primetime Players” starting Oct 4: Ben Marshall, Tommy Brennan, Veronika Slowikowska, Jeremy Culhane, and, most notably, a Trump-supporting, non-woke comic by the name of Kam Patterson.
Patterson has made a name for himself with some very edgy, hilarious comedic bits, and regularly appeared on the stand-up comedy podcast, “Kill Tony.”

Loftus suggests that although the change is “certainly welcome,” it may be a move intended to balance things out, a sort of “DEI-conservative hire” by SNL creator Lorne Michaels.
Michaels has the final say over hiring and firing decisions. He hinted at a shakeup after the 50th anniversary of the show during an interview with Puck in August, saying he’d wanted to change things last season, but that it would have distracted from the special guests and fanfare of the 50th season. Now, he’s shaking things up.
“Michaels understands that, in the era of Trump, conservatives have the upper hand in culture, and hiring someone who is on the edgier side and will appeal to the right is a smart move,” Loftus wrote.
