Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and former presidential candidate Nikki Haley has doubled down amid the fiery debate about American companies hiring foreign workers.
Thursday night, Haley blasted a statement by Vivek Ramaswamy, who had argued that the reason top tech companies often hire foreign-born and first-generation engineers over “native” Americans was because American culture has settled for “mediocrity over excellence for way too long” and failed to encourage American youth to succeed.
This comes amid a huge drama that has played out on X over the past three days, as some Trump supporters are furious that Elon Musk, Ramaswamy and other tech executives getting close to President-elect Donald Trump have called for an increase in H-1B visas for foreign tech workers from India.
On Friday, Haley posted the following statement:
When I was governor in SC our unemployment went from 11% to 4%. How? Not by hiring foreign workers. We recruited foreign companies to invest in SC but not their workers. We retrained South Carolinians in our tech schools for these new jobs.
The companies started apprentice programs for high school and college students. You know who paid for them? The companies, not govt. Today South Carolinians are building planes, automobiles, tires, etc. And building them well.
What is lazy is for the tech industry to automatically go to foreign workers for their needs. If the tech industry needs workers, invest in our education system. Invest in our American workforce. We must invest in Americans first before looking elsewhere. Don’t ever underestimate the talent of Americans or the American spirit.

Below are just some of the responses to Haley’s statement:
Holy shit
I am agreeing with Nikki Haley AGAIN

You are 100% correct. I was there in Aerospace when you were doing this. Well done. 👍🇺🇸

South Carolina has great TECH schools and are training American workers for in-demand jobs.
Recruiters come to the TECH schools to hire the students right out of the program and many of them attend school for very little money out of their own pockets.

Well it’s slightly revisionist, because South Carolina is flooded with illegals in the trades.
But there’s some truth to it. And it’s so weird to have Nikki Haley as an ally on America First.@SenatorTimScott @LindseyGrahamSC @RepNancyMace no comment? Gonna sit this one out?

Well…. I didn’t expect to agree with Nikki Haley this morning but Mrs Haley is 100% correct here
The argument for “more imported help” always boils down, at the end of the day, to corporations just chasing more profits at the expense of Americans and America

Did you ever say this on the campaign trail when you ran for President?

Me agreeing with you on anything was not on my 2024 bingo card. Thanks for speaking out.
