From the New York Post: A New York City woman locked up for making deranged social media posts threatening to kill President Trump was quietly released by an Obama-appointed judge last week.
Chief US District Judge James Boasberg released Nathalie Rose Jones, a 50-year-old Big Apple resident, under electronic monitoring on Aug. 27 and ordered she see a psychiatrist once back home, court documents revealed.
The surprise release comes just days after US Magistrate Judge Moxila Upadhyaya denied Jones bond over the persistent threats on Trump’s life she issued over social media earlier this month.
According to the Lafayette Journal & Courier, the court order stated that Jones was to be released from federal custody last Wednesday, August 27, no later than 8:00 a.m. She was instructed to get in her car, drive straight to her apartment in New York City, and meet with her psychiatrist before 5:00 p.m. that same day.
As part of her release, Jones is supposed to undergo a mental health evaluation, wear a GPS monitor, and be on in-home detention. Her attorneys claimed that her threats against Trump are protected under the First Amendment.
The Journal wrote:
Jones’ defense attorney argued in a court brief that Jones’ posts were hyperbolic statements, not true threats. These, her attorney argued, are protected under the First Amendment.
“The government cannot meet that burden (of proof) here,” the brief states. “Ms. Jones has no criminal history. Counsel verified her address through her neighbor. … Most importantly, she did not make any ‘true threat,’ possessed no weapon or ability to harm Donald Trump, took no steps toward harming him, stated that she had no intent to harm him, and cooperated with law enforcement.”
Her attorneys gave the judge several emails from her friends, who all claimed she would never harm anyone.
However, in a long Facebook post on August 6, Jones had written: “Here’s where we are… I literally told FBI in five states today that I am willing to sacrificially kill this POTUS by disemboweling him and cutting out his trachea with Liz Cheney and all The Affirmation present… Let’s deal with this and restore domestic tranquility.”
“If she had a gun with her this case is easy,” Judge Boasberg reportedly said, adding, “But the question is, why shouldn’t we consider this the rantings of someone with a mental illness with no ability to carry this out?”
The New York Post noted that officials first became aware of Jones’ wild posts on August 2. During an interview at her NYC apartment on August 15, she personally told Secret Service agents that she would “carry out the mission of killing” Trump with a “bladed object” if given the chance.
The very next day, on August 16, Jone traveled to Washington, D.C. and participated in a protest directly outside the White House, and was even interviewed by a News Nation reporter with the White House in the background. The News Nation reporter had no idea at the time that Jones was under surveillance for threatening President Trump.
Secret Service agents then confronted Jones after the protest, and arrested her.
Now, Judge Boasberg has turned her loose.
ABOUT THIS JUDGE: James Boasberg, 62, serves as the chief judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. He was nominated by Barack Obama in 2011, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in a unanimous vote.
Defiantly, Jones is already back to posting on Facebook. Monday evening, she bizarrely re-posted an article about EGGS, and then wrote the following statement about her arrest, vowing to “remove the Trump administration safely.” Her wild statement reads:
African, Asian, European, South American, Central American, and Middle Eastern friends,
I want you to know I’ve tried to remove the Trump Administration safely many times, but did cross the line with several threats on lives of members of this authoritarian regime. I was arrested by U.S. Secret Service and detained eleven days in jail in DC. I am facing two felonies. It is serious.
But what is also serious is that NSA, military, NCTC, CIA, ODNI, and FBI never asked me to stop. Not in person, on the phone, via email, via text, not even in intelligence at all or online here. They didn’t fuel it and get a groundswell of support. But never once have I been corrected even or admonished.
So we will still be looking at a safe removal of this entire line of succession to the United States Presidency, which we revere in this country, as you well know.
Peace,
In another Facebook post on Sunday, Jones wrote, “God’s in hell.”
After Jones was arrested, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro had posted the following video on X on August 18:
Threatening the life of the President is one of the most serious crimes and one that will be met with swift and unwavering prosecution. Make no mistake—justice will be served.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our dedicated law enforcement partners, especially the Secret… pic.twitter.com/P9qT0rHg2g
