NEWS ALERT: Van drives through barricade near White House

From The Hill: A van drove through a barricade near the White House early Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C. said officers responded to Connecticut Ave., NW and H Street, NW around 6:37 a.m. EDT for the crash. There were no injuries reported.

The driver was detained and being questioned, according to a statement from the Secret Service.


No details have been released yet about the driver.

CBS reporter Jennifer Jacobs wrote, “Streets around the White House are temporarily shut down with police tape and a surge of law enforcement officials due to a suspicious vehicle, @CBSNews’ @saraecook reports. The driver of the car has been detained and was being questioned by US Secret Service.”

Reporter Sara Cook confirmed, “A vehicle collided with the WH gate, at Connecticut and H Streets NW, an MPD spox tells @CBSNews. No injuries currently reported.”
