Slowly but surely, mainstream Democrats are moving even farther left and endorsing a Muslim Democrat socialist for mayor of America’s largest city, New York City.
From the New York Post: President Trump threatened early Monday to withhold federal funds from New York after Gov. Kathy Hochul’s “shocking” endorsement of socialist Zohran Mamdani to be the Big Apple’s mayor.
“Governor Kathy Hochul of New York has Endorsed [sic] the ‘Liddle Communist,’ Zohran Mamdani, running for Mayor of New York,” the president wrote online. “This is a rather shocking development, and a very bad one for New York City.”
“How can such a thing happen?” Trump continued, adding, “Washington will be watching this situation very closely. No reason to be sending good money after bad!”
Hochul made the stunning endorsement of the radical Democrat socialist in a op-ed published in the New York Times Sunday evening.
She then shared a link to her op-ed on X and wrote, “New York City deserves a mayor who will stand up to Donald Trump and make life more affordable for New Yorkers. That’s @ZohranKMamdani.”
In her op-ed, Hochul writes:
In the four years since I became governor of New York, one of my foundational beliefs has been the importance of the office working hand in hand with the mayor of New York City for the betterment of the 8.3 million residents we both represent.
The question of who will be the next mayor is one I take extremely seriously and to which I have devoted a great deal of thought.
I am endorsing Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani.
Hochul then touted that she shares many priorities with Mamdani.
Finally, Hochul gushed over her shared goal with Mamdani to fight against President Trump.
“Mr. Mamdani and I will both be fearless in confronting the president’s extreme agenda — with urgency, conviction and the defiance that defines New York. And we must never allow Mr. Trump to control our city like the king he wants to be. Anyone who accepts his tainted influence or benefits from it is compromised from the start,” she wrote.
