From the Daily Caller: President Donald Trump said on Monday that he will allow 600,000 students from China to study in the U.S.
Trump said in June that allowing Chinese students to attend U.S. schools would be beneficial as long as they did not pose a national security risk. The president stated during Monday’s Oval Office event with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung that he will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping to continue the “very important relationship” between the U.S. and China.
“I hear so many stories [about how] we’re not gonna allow their students. We’re gonna allow their students to come in. We’re gonna allow 600,00 students. It’s very important, but we’re gonna get along with China,” Trump said.
The U.S. and China reached an agreement in June to allow Chinese students to attend U.S. colleges and universities, which came after the administration suspended Harvard University’s ability to admit foreign nationals on June 5. The administration cited national security concerns and allegations of antisemitism on college campuses in its efforts to restrict foreign students from entering the U.S.

In June, President Trump said he would allow 500,000 Chinese students to study at American universities.
“I’ve always been in favor of it…I’m also in favor of having them stay,” Trump said.

Trump’s support for hundreds of thousands of Chinese students to attend American universities is prompting major backlash from many conservatives.
Fox News host Laura Ingraham blasted the proposal, and confronted Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick about it during her show Monday evening.

China expert Gordon Chang warned, “The first responsibility of American institutions of higher learning is to get Americans ready for the future, not the nationals of a Chinese regime that seeks our destruction.”

In a Facebook post, DML News App founder Dennis Michael Lynch wrote, “This move by Trump is the single worst move he has ever made. There is no 4D chess here. The Chinese send their students in to spy; we have arrested many for espionage. The Chinese are taking over American from within. These students will have children in the US and the 14th Amendment will grant them citizenship. I cannot emphasize how f*cking terrible this deal is. This is worse than when Obama sent pallets of cash to Iran. How is Trump missing the danger in this? Xi agrees to tariffs in exchange for students? Right then and there the flags should go up. And how about the fact that these Chinese students take spots that should go to American kids. This is an epic fail. Where the F*CK is Stephen Miller?”
