After surviving an assassination attempt on his own life, former President Donald Trump called for Secret Service protection to also be given to Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
Kennedy’s father, Robert F. Kennedy, was assassinated in June 1968 when he was running for president, and his uncle, former President John F. Kennedy, was assassinated in November 1963.
RFK Jr. has repeatedly requested Secret Service protection since he began running for president, but the Biden administration has denied his request.
In a Truth Social post Monday morning, Trump wrote, “In light of what is going on in the world today, I believe it is imperative that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. receive Secret Service protection — immediately. Given the history of the Kennedy Family, this is the obvious right thing to do!”
On Saturday, after the shooting at the Trump rally, multiple others made the same request, including Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) wrote, “It’s long past time for Biden to put pettiness aside and grant Secret Service protection to @RobertKennedyJr.”

After the shooting on Saturday, Kennedy wrote in a social media post, “Now is the time for every American who loves our country to step back from the division, renounce all violence, and unite in prayer for President Trump and his family.”

Kennedy also commended former First Lady Melania Trump for a statement she released. He wrote:
