From the Daily Mail: A Texas teen charged in the stabbing death of a track star is holed up in an exclusive gated community in a $900,000 house – despite claiming to have limited financial means as he convinced a judge to release him from jail.
Karmelo Anthony, 17, walked free from prison after a controversial decision by a judge to lower his bond for charges that he stabbed and killed Austin Metcalf at a track meet on April 2.
Local cops say a confrontation between Metcalf and Anthony broke out during a high school track meet when Metcalf called out Anthony, who did not attend the same school as Metcalf, for sitting under his team’s tent.
Metcalf demanded Anthony leave and the argument escalated when Anthony produced a knife and stabbed the junior from Memorial High School in the chest. Metcalf died in his twin brother’s arms who was also at the track meet.
Anthony admitted to police after the murder that he stabbed Metcalf. He was initially jailed on a $1 million bond. However, on Monday, a judge reduced his bond to $250,000. He reportedly had to pay 10% of that amount, and was released from jail with an ankle monitor and ordered to remain on house arrest.
Supporters have donated over $448,000 to a GiveSendGo account set up to aid the self-admitted killer. A statement on the GiveSendGo account reads:
This fundraiser has been established to provide comprehensive assistance to the Anthony family as they navigate the many challenges surrounding Karmelo’s case.
While legal defense is a critical part of this journey, we want to make it clear that this fund is not solely dedicated to legal expenses. The funds raised will also support a range of urgent and necessary needs that have emerged as a result of this situation, including — but not limited to — the safe relocation of the Anthony family due to escalating threats to their safety and well-being, as well as basic living costs, transportation, counseling, and other security measures.
We ask for your continued prayers, support, and solidarity. Your contribution not only helps protect and stabilize the family, but also serves as a powerful message of community care and resistance in the face of injustice.
According to the Daily mail, the Anthony family is living in a rented upscale $860,000 home in Frisco, Texas. The gorgeous 3,331-square-foot two-story home has 4 bedrooms and 3 baths. It is located in a gated community called “Richwoods.” CLICK HERE to see the Zillow listing. It is uncertain how long they have been living in the home.
The Daily Mail reported that a white Suburban, a black Acura and a third sedan were all seen parked in the driveway on Tuesday. One neighbor told the Daily Mail, “He got a new car. If you look at the license plate, it’s got a paper tag and it says it expires June 4.”
The Daily Mail noted that multiple deliveries were made to the home where the Anthony family are staying, including Dominos Pizza delivery and several Amazon deliveries.
The neighbors were reportedly unaware the Anthony family was living amongst them until Karmelo Anthony was brought home from jail on Monday. Now many local residents are upset, and even fearful for their own safety.
“The whole reason we live here is because it’s gated,” one neighbor said. “This is supposed to be a good neighborhood. These are high-end houses. Not everyone can move in here. I don’t even know what to say. This is supposed to be a safe [community].”
Another neighbor reportedly told the Daily Mail, “Not good. Not good. I don’t think he should be out. I don’t understand why he had a knife? My kids were in track. Your tents are for your school… you don’t sit under another school’s tent. That is NOT done because everyone leaves their stuff there while they’re out on events.”
“Why would you stab someone? And now he’s a few doors down. It’s very scary. Like could he rob houses? I don’t know,” she added.
Karmelo Anthony’s family has purchased a Cadillac Escalade worth $150,000 and begun renting a $900,000 home after receiving half a million in donations for his defense.

Kyle Rittenhouse, who was acquitted after being charged with shooting protesters who were chasing him in Wisconsin in 2020, wrote, “So, the left thinks what Karmelo Anthony did was self-defense, but what I did wasn’t? Can someone please help this make sense?”

TMZ reported that GiveSendGo has not yet distributed the money from the fundraising account to the family, so they have not yet used any of that money.
Many donors commenting on the GiveSendGo account are claiming the charges against Anthony are racist. One donor wrote, “This is a crucible for this young man and his family. This MAGA fueled Christian Nationalist dystopia in which we live is livid and cares nothing about justice and process.”
Another donor wrote, “BANF We are the defenders of our LINEAGE. This is America and these flat-whiteness immigrants from all over the world has always been open ENEMIES towards FOUNDATIONAL BLACK AMERICANS from Day 1 NO MORE..”
“Thank you for stopping the white supremacist bullies,” another donor wrote.
People are donating to Karmelo Anthony because he is “stopping white supremacy.”
