From the Associated Press: A Florida man was arrested Wednesday and charged with a plot to “reboot” the U.S. government by planting a bomb at the New York Stock Exchange this week and detonating it with a remote-controlled device, according to the FBI.

Harun Abdul-Malik Yener, 30, of Coral Springs, Florida, was charged with attempt to use an explosive device to damage or destroy a building used in interstate commerce.

The FBI began investigating Yener in February based on a tip that he was storing “bombmaking schematics” in a storage unit. They found bomb-making sketches, many watches with timers, electronic circuit boards and other electronics that could be used for building explosive devices, according to the FBI. He had also searched online for things related to bomb-making since 2017, according to the FBI.

Yener also told undercover FBI agents that he wanted to detonate the bomb the week before Thanksgiving and that the stock exchange in lower Manhattan would be a popular site to target.

According to a criminal complaint filed on Wednesday by the U.S. District Court Southern District of Florida, Yener said he wanted to bomb the stock exchange in order to “reboot” the U.S. government. He touted that it would be “like a small nuke went off,” killing everyone inside the building.

Yener had recently re-wired two-way radios so they could be used as remote controls that would set off an explosive device. He has also posted videos on a YouTube channel about making explosives from household items.

The court document said Yener was fired from a restaurant in Coconut Creek, Florida last year because he threatened to “go Parkland shooter in this place.”

More from CBS News: Yener also allegedly told agents he considered joining ISIS but decided not to in 2015 because he believed “ISIS would not ultimately succeed in achieving their objectives.”

By Nov. 12, investigators say Yener made audio recordings of the demands and reasons behind the attack. “I feel like Bin Laden,” he allegedly said.

“From search warrant returns on YENER’s Google accounts, agents discovered his repeated internet searches for aspects of bombmaking since as early as 2017,” the court document states.

The criminal complaint says Yener was born in the United States in 1994, and describes him as “unhoused.”
