NEWS ALERT: Second federal judge blocks one of Trump’s sweeping executive orders

From Fox News: A second federal judge moved to block President Donald Trump’s executive order ending birthright citizenship on Wednesday, with the judge saying no court has yet sided with the administration on the issue.

U.S. District Judge Deborah Boardman, an appointee of President Joe Biden, noted a prior ruling that had paused the implementation of Trump’s order. Boardman argued that citizenship is a “national concern that demands a uniform policy.” The prior ruling only paused implementation of Trump’s order for 14 days, however, while Boardman’s ruling will last through appeal.

“Citizenship is a most precious right, expressly granted by the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution,” she wrote in her ruling.

The decision comes more than a week after U.S. District Judge John Coughenour, a Ronald Reagan appointee, also blocked the executive order following a lawsuit by four U.S. states — Arizona, Illinois, Oregon and Washington. Coughenour called Trump’s order “blatantly unconstitutional.”


The 14th Amendment states: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”

President Trump’s executive ordef clarifies that those born to illegal alien parents, or those who were in the United States legally but on temporary nonimmigrant visas, are not U.S. citizens by birthright.

It has long been argued by conservatives that the 14th Amendment has been misinterpreted, and that the founding fathers never intended that children born to people illegally present in the United States would automatically become U.S. citizens.

The Center for Immigration Studies released a report last month that reveals there were 225,000 to 250,000 births to illegal aliens in 2023, amounting to close to 7 percent of births in the U.S.
