NEWS ALERT: Schumer touts ‘bipartisan’ plans to reverse DOGE cuts as lawmakers work through funding push

From Fox News: House Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said he would press to restore funding cut by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and even add to the original amounts.

Schumer made the comments when he was asked Thursday if he would work to replenish funding for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) at a forum held by the Center for American Progress.

“If you look at the budget we’re working on right now, we restore most of the cuts. And even go higher than previous years on many of the programs that DOGE slashed,” Schumer said.

“We have worked really hard and gotten bipartisan support to increase these amounts and undo a lot of the cuts which are essential.”

After DOGE was formed last year and billionaire Elon Musk was designated to lead the effort for the first 130 days, Schumer repeatedly ranted and raged against the cuts in wasteful spending.

Now, he is vowing to restore the funds that were cut, although he did not specify exactly what he would be targeting.  It is unclear which Republicans are on board with his plan.

Based on data provided on the DOGE website, it is believed that $215 billion in waste has been slashed. The report notes that Republicans made $115 billion of those spending reductions official through a bill passed last year.

DOGE is still active, and about once a week the group posts a list of new cuts that have been made.
