From the Washington Examiner: Secretary of State Marco Rubio condemned the German domestic spy agency for designating the Alternative für Deutschland party an “extremist” group.
Germany’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the Verfassungsschutz, claimed Friday that the AfD was trying to “undermine the free democratic basic order” — opening up the ability to greater surveil the group. The move drew backlash from the Trump administration, with Rubio and others voicing their concern on social media.
“Germany just gave its spy agency new powers to surveil the opposition. That’s not democracy—it’s tyranny in disguise. What is truly extremist is not the popular AfD—which took second in the recent election—but rather the establishment’s deadly open border immigration policies that the AfD opposes. Germany should reverse course,” Rubio said in a post on X.
In a chilling rebuttal, the German Foreign Office fired back, “This is democracy. This decision is the result of a thorough & independent investigation to protect our Constitution & the rule of law. It is independent courts that will have the final say. We have learnt from our history that rightwing extremism needs to be stopped.”

In Germany’s election in February, the establishment ‘conservative’ party won, but a stunning upset also occurred, as the far-right AfD party skyrocketed to second place, and the liberal Social Democrat Party (SPD) came in third place in a crushing defeat.
Now German authorities appear to be trying to squash the rise of the AfD by declaring that “rightwing extremism needs to be stopped.”
Vice President JD Vance wrote, “The AfD is the most popular party in Germany, and by far the most representative of East Germany. Now the bureaucrats try to destroy it. The West tore down the Berlin Wall together. And it has been rebuilt—not by the Soviets or the Russians, but by the German establishment.”

El Salvador President Nayib Bukele also weighed in, writing, “When will all these rankings and colored maps finally stop calling Germany a full democracy?”

Dr. Simon Goddek replied, “You’re absolutely right. Germany is actively trying to ban the @AfD, the country’s main opposition party. Even worse: the German domestic intelligence agency openly admitted it’s working to infiltrate the party with agents hostile to the constitution, just to sabotage them from within. All of this to protect the woke-socialist ruling parties that are driving the country into the ground.”

German political activist Naomi Seibt, a supporter of the AfD, wrote, “When the Berlin Wall fell, they opened the gates for socialist tyrants to hijack Germany. Including Angela Merkel. This is the truth and I cannot go back to Germany for exposing it because my life is at stake.”
