From NBC News: U.S. Capitol Police said Tuesday that they arrested a person accused of assaulting Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C.

The suspect, identified as James McIntyre, 33, of Illinois, faces a charge of assaulting a government official.

Mace said Tuesday night on X that she was “physically accosted at the Capitol tonight” by someone who she said was a defender of transgender rights.

Police said the Rayburn building was open to the public at the time of the shocking incident, and McIntyre had gone through security screening before entering the building.

Mace announced in a social media post Tuesday night, “I was physically accosted at the Capitol tonight by a pro-tr*ns man. One new brace for my wrist and some ice for my arm and it’ll heal just fine.

“The Capitol police arrested the guy. Your tr*ns violence and threats on my life will only make me double down. FAFO. #HoldTheLine.”

From her official X account, Mace wrote, “I was physically accosted tonight on Capitol grounds over my fight to protect women. Capitol police have arrested him. All the violence and threats keep proving our point. Women deserve to be safe. Your threats will not stop my fight for women!”

Journalist Andy Ngo announced, “The 33-year-old suspect arrested over the assault of Congresswoman @NancyMace is LGBTQ+ activist James McIntyre, of Cook County, Ill.”

“According to a source with knowledge, LGBTQ+ activist James McIntyre allegedly grabbed @NancyMace’s hand aggressively, tightened his grip and shook her around by her arm. Rep. Mace weighs only around 115 pounds. McIntyre faces a charge of assaulting a government official, a felony.”

Tuesday morning, Mace, added, “Thank you President Trump for the call just now to check in on me. 🇺🇸 I’m going to be fine just as soon as the pain and soreness subside. January 20th can’t come soon enough.”

“Free speech should be free. And no one should be assaulted for their beliefs or their bills,” Mace wrote.

Former college swimmer Riley Gaines reacted, writing, “This is what we’re up against—literal violence for daring to say women are worthy of equal rights to privacy, safety, and opportunity. Hold the line, @NancyMace.”

Mace replied, “They are only proving our point that women need safe and private spaces away from men. #HoldTheLine.”

According to information posted on social media by internet sleuths, McIntyre is a ‘Senior Director of Governmental Relations and Volunteer Recruitment at Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Cook County,’ an organization that works with CHILDREN.
