From NBC News: One person was hurt in a shooting inside Thomas S. Wootton High School in Rockville, Maryland, Monday afternoon, and the school is on lockdown, police say.

Montgomery County police said officers have taken a person into custody in connection to the shooting. It’s unclear at this time if that person is a suspect.

The school was put on lockdown soon after the shooting happened at about 2:15 p.m., Montgomery County police said.

Montgomery County Public Schools alerted Wootton High School parents and guardians about the shooting via text messages. The school district said the person who was injured was taken to a hospital, according to messages a Wootton parent shared with News4.

“The shooting occurred inside of the school. One confirmed victim,” police said in one social media post.

According to posts by the media, the victim was a boy, approximately 16 years old, who was shot once in the upper body.

Police later announced, “MCPD has one person in custody related to the Wootton High School shooting.”
