One of the radical judges that Democrats rushed to confirm into office in November, ahead of President Trump’s inauguration, has just thrown a roadblock down in front of the Trump agenda.

The following excerpts are from the Associated Press: A federal judge ordered the Trump administration on Thursday to temporarily lift a three-week funding freeze that has shut down U.S. aid and development work worldwide, citing the sweeping damage that the sudden shutdown has done to the nonprofits and other organizations that help carry out U.S. assistance overseas.

The court ruling was the second to deliver a major setback for the Trump administration in what has been its dismantling of the six-decade-old U.S. Agency for International Development, which President Donald Trump and ally Elon Musk accuse of being out of line with Trump’s agenda.

Thursday’s ruling by the U.S. district court in Washington is the first ruling that targets what aid groups and others say has been a sudden and absolute cutoff of USAID funds for programs abroad.

Judge Amir Ali issued the temporary order Thursday in the U.S. in a lawsuit brought by two organizations, the AIDS Vaccine Advocacy Coalition and the Global Health Council, representing health organizations receiving U.S. funds for work abroad.

The ruling also bars Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other Trump officials from enforcing stop-work orders that the Trump administration and Musk have sent to the companies and organizations carrying out foreign aid orders.

Judge Amir Ali, 40, was born in Canada. He was nominated by Joe Biden in February 2024, to fill a seat vacated by Judge Beryl Howell, who assumed senior status.

Ali was one of the group of radical judges that Democrats rushed to confirm in November, ahead of President Trump’s inauguration. Ali was confirmed on November 20, and assumed office on November 22, 2024, becoming the first Muslim and Arab American federal judge to serve in D.C. Former Sen. Kyrsten Sinema had voted against him.

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) had cheered Ali’s confirmation on November 20.

The same day, then-President Elect Donald Trump had written in a social media post, “The Democrats are trying to stack the Courts with Radical Left Judges on their way out the door. Republican Senators need to Show Up and Hold the Line — No more Judges confirmed before Inauguration Day!”

At the time Schumer was rushing to get several of Biden’s leftist judges confirmed in November, Kamala Harris was away on vacation, so she was not there to cast a tie-breaking vote.  Several of the judges, including Ali, were confirmed because some Republican senators also were not there to vote against them.

Amir Ali was confirmed in a 50-48 vote. Sen. Ted Cruz and Sen. Mike Braun were not there to vote.  If they had been, it would have been a tie, and Ali would not have been confirmed.

Now, the newly-confirmed 40-year-old judge has just done the Democrats a huge favor, temporarily blocking President Trump from shutting off the USAID money flow.
