From BreitbartPolice in San Antonio arrested an illegal alien after he allegedly shot a former Marine working as a security guard in a bar. The Marine, working as a security guard in a bar,  is fighting for his life after he attempted to disarm the illegal alien.

More than a month later, Jimmy Friesenhahn, a 44-year-old Marine combat veteran, is fighting for his life in a San Antonio hospital after being shot while working as a security guard at the El Patio Sports Bar early on the morning of May 4. Police arrested Wilmer Vladmir Ortega Ruiz, a 29-year-old man who entered the U.S. illegally, for the shooting, News4SA reported.

As the suspect entered the sports bar, Friesenhahn attempted to search him for weapons. The two men struggled after the Marine allegedly found a handgun in the man’s pocket.

During the struggle, police say Ortega Ruiz shot Friesenhahn multiple times, striking him twice in his ballistic vest and once in the neck. The neck wound left the 14-year Marine Corps veteran paralyzed from a spinal cord injury and unable to speak, the article reports. Following the May 4 shooting, he has undergone six surgeries.

Friesenhahn served in the Marine Corps for 14 years — including a combat tour in Iraq. He is the father of a five-month-old baby girl, but now, completely paralyzed, he cannot hold her in his arms or even speak to her. The family is concerned that he may never be able to walk or talk again.

Meanwhile, according to a report by the New York Post, Ortega Ruiz has a lengthy criminal record.

The report detailed at least four times when the illegal alien was arrested, turned loose, didn’t show up for court hearings, and the Bexar County District Attorney, a Democrat, even downgraded charges or gave him a “slap on the wrist.”  The first documented arrest in San Antonio was in October 2020 for DWI.

Ortega Ruiz, from Honduras, reportedly snuck across the border into the United States as a “gotaway.”

The New York Post writes:

Meanwhile, the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office has only pursued aggravated assault charges against Ortega Ruiz and set his bond amount at $200,000 in his latest alleged offense.

And the victim’s family is outraged, calling the repeated lax prosecution “a huge slap in the face.”

“That’s attempted murder, that’s not aggravated assault,” said Friesenhahn’s tearful sister, Evangelina Borjon.

A GoFundMe page set up to help Friesenhahn has so far only raised about 10,000.
