Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old accused of assassinating UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on the morning of December 4, has been extradited back to New York to face murder and terrorism charges after being captured in Pennsylvania.
Mangione appeared for his extradition hearing in Pennsylvania Thursday morning. He was then flown straight to New York where a large group of federal agents, along with NYC Mayor Eric Adams, were waiting to take him into custody.
After his arraignment hearing in a Manhattan courthouse on Thursday, Mangione is expected to be held at Rikers Island, where he will be in isolation and protective custody because of his high-profile status, CBS News reported.
When Mangione was hauled off the plane and walked to a waiting vehicle, he appeared sober, and even nervous, unlike the defiant behavior he had shown after his arrest. Wearing an orange jumpsuit, he was handcuffed and shackled.
Many social media users are noting Mangione was “perp walked.”

Prosecutors: We don’t want to turn Luigi Mangione into some kind of martyr. That’s why we’re charging him with terrorism.

Mayor Adams posted photos of the perp walk and wrote,”Luigi Mangione was brought back to New York City to answer to the charges in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Those who bring illegal guns to our city will face justice.”
“I want to thank all the individuals and law enforcement who helped bring this suspect into custody. The NYPD stops at nothing to catch criminals.”

More from the New York Post: Luigi Mangione began plotting to ‘wack’ Brian Thompson as early as August, investigators say
Accused CEO killer Luigi Mangione appears to have been plotting his attack against Brian Thompson as far back as August, penning a desire to take out the CEO of a medical insurer in a notebook, laden with angry tirades against the industry, that investigators say belongs to him.
In an entry in the notebook dated Aug. 15, Mangione allegedly wrote “the details are finally coming together,” noting he “was glad” that he procrastinated in his preparations because it “allowed him to learn more” about UnitedHealthcare, the insurance behemoth Thompson led.
“The target is insurance,” he allegedly wrote, adding that UnitedHealthcare “checks every box.”
An Oct. 22 entry shared by federal investigators in a complaint unsealed Thursday alludes to an investor conference coming up in six weeks, at which he described his intention to “wack” [sic] the CEO of one of the insurance companies in attendance.
“I wasn’t working with anyone. This was fairly trivial: Some elementary social engineering, basic CAD, a lot of patience,” Mangione reportedly wrote in a letter which was addressed, “to the Feds.”
