From CBS12.com: An Indiana January 6 rioter recently pardoned by President Donald Trump was shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy Sunday.
Matthew Huttle, 42, of Hobart, Indiana was fatally struck by gunfire during a traffic stop involving a deputy with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, according to a release.
Police reported Huttle was pulled over on State Road 14 at around 4:15 p.m. when a traffic stop led to the deputy attempting to arrest Huttle. Authorities said an “altercation” occurred, which ended when the deputy opened fire, killing Huttle.
Indiana State Police (ISP) added that Huttle had a firearm, but no further details were provided in regard to the altercation or why the deputy moved to arrest Huttle.
Fox59.com explained: Indiana State Police said the traffic stop led to the deputy attempting to arrest Huttle, but Huttle allegedly resisted and struggled with the officer. This “altercation” led to the deputy firing his gun and killing Huttle.
Huttle and his uncle, Dale Huttle of Crown Point, had both been tracked down by the FBI and arrested for taking part in the Jan. 6, 2021 U.S. Capitol riots. Huttle was reportedly on the Capitol grounds for several hours, but was only inside the Capitol building for about 10 minutes.
Matthew Huttle had been sentenced to six months in federal prison, and was released on July 17, 2024. He was still in the middle of a ’12 months of supervised release term’ when he was pardoned by President Trump last week.
Sheriff Patrick Williamson released the following statement: “For full transparency, I requested the Indiana State Police to investigate this officer-involved shooting. The officer that is involved has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard protocol and is our policy in these situations. Our condolences go out to the family of the deceased as any loss of life is traumatic to those that were close to Mr. Huttle. I will release the officer’s name once I have approval from the State Police Detectives.”
Below is a post on X by someone who knew Huttle:
It was just reported that Matthew Huttle was shot and killed by police last night after being pulled over in Indiana. He was a January 6 defendant who served 6 months in prison at USP Thomson; the same institution that I was held in.
Matt is pictured on the left here… He and my buddy Dan (middle) used to walk the track in the rec yard and discuss the state of our Country. He was a Patriot who hated government corruption and loved his family.
I had the pleasure of knowing him, and it was clear that he had a very big heart.
We sometimes worried about Matt because he did not know where he was going to live after leaving prison, and at one point the government supposedly wanted him to move to Washington, D.C. for his supervised release.
I hope we obtain body-cam footage from the Police Officer who fatally shot my friend immediately, and that investigators uncover the truth. Regardless of whether the officer was in the wrong or not, I think it is fair to say that this man was another victim of Joe Biden’s weaponized DOJ.
I hope Matthew Huttle Rests In Peace, and PRAY we do not see any more tragic stories like this one stemming from political persecution to the highest degree.
