The Democrat mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, is being torched over decisions she has made, now that the major parts of the city are going up in flames this week.
Bass, 71, previously served in U.S. Congress for nearly 12 years, from January 2011 to December 2022. She was elected as Mayor of Los Angeles and took office in December 2022.
But now Los Angeles residents are not so happy with Bass, and are blasting her for not only slashing funding for the city’s fire department, but jetting off to AFRICA to attend the Ghana president’s inauguration, while the city burned.
To make matters even worse, firefighters are reportedly running out of water.
From the New York Post: The Los Angeles Fire Department had its budget cut by a staggering $17.6 million this financial year, records show — as fire crews continue to battle out-of-control blazes ravaging the City of Angels.
The drastic decrease in funding for the fire department was the second-largest cut to come out of embattled Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass‘ 2024-25 fiscal year budget, according to city figures.
The police budget, meanwhile, increased by $126 million, a graphic shared by LA City Controller Kenneth Mejia shows.
Bass had initially wanted to cut the fire department by even more — a staggering $23 million.
Bass is reportedly cutting her trip short to return to Los Angeles, but the damage has already been done.
While in Africa, Bass posted on X, “Our @LAFD and @LAPDHQ teams continue to work overnight to protect Angelenos affected by fires in L.A. Angelenos should be advised that the windstorm is expected to worsen through the morning and to heed local warnings, stay vigilant and stay safe. Red flag parking restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.”

Many X users are blasting Bass over her post, with several asking her how is Ghana, and others suggesting that she just stay there. Many are calling for her resignation.
“You are short on fire fighters because of your funding cuts and DEI hiring requirements. There is also insufficient water. You don’t get to pretend you are doing everything possible to look good. You failed your own citizens. Resign,” one X user wrote.

Conservative actor James Woods, whose Palisades home burned in the fire Tuesday night, slammed one X user blaming the fire on climate change.
“This fire is not from “climate change,” you ignorant asshole. It’s because liberal idiots like you elect liberal idiots like Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass. One doesn’t understand the first thing about fire management and the other can’t fill the water reservoirs,” Woods wrote.

“Oh look, Karen Bass’ budget called for the elimination of LA’s Emergency Management Department’s positions (the dept that’s running the show). This is after she cut the Fire Department by nearly $17M,” another person announced.

Jordi Hays wrote, “LA Mayor Karen Bass recently cut the fire departments annual budget by $17.5MM. Because of this, fire hydrant testing was suspended and now many of them are completely non-functional. Once the fires are out I expect there will be immense pressure on her to resign.”

Did you cut funding to the fire department?

Did the tax payers pay for your trip, like all the other unnecessary trips you take? You are a state government worker not a federal so why travel to a foreign country?

It’s not like Mayor Bass could really do anything, but these political taxpayer funded trips to Ghana? Really? pic.twitter.com/IhkOwmAUK4
