From the Associated Press: A federal judge on Friday blocked the Trump administration from ending temporary legal protections that have granted more than 1 million people from Haiti and Venezuela the right to live and work in the United States.
The ruling by U.S. District Judge Edward Chen of San Francisco for the plaintiffs means 600,000 Venezuelans whose temporary protections expired in April or whose protections were about to expire Sept. 10 have status to stay and work in the United States. It also keeps protections for about 500,000 Haitians.
Chen scolded Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem for revoking protections for Venezuelans and Haitians that the judge said would send them “back to conditions that are so dangerous that even the State Department advises against travel to their home countries.”
He said Noem’s actions were arbitrary and capricious, and she exceeded her authority in ending protections that were extended by the Biden administration.
ABOUT THIS JUDGE: Edward Chen, 72, is of Chinese descent and was born in Oakland, California. He is a senior United States district judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, and was appointed in 2011 by President Barack Obama. Prior to becoming a judge, in September 1985, Chen became a staff attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), specializing in language discrimination cases.
Chen had previously blocked the Trump administration from stripping legal protections from 350,000 Venezuelans, but the Supreme Court overruled him in May, in an 8-1 ruling.

Chen Charitable Foundation, now part of the San Francisco Foundation, a radical pro-immigration, pro-open borders, and anti-Trump 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
Today, Judge Edward Chen BLOCKED the Trump administration from ending temporary protected status (TPS) for 1.1 MILLION illegal Venezuelans and Haitian INVADERS.
Judge Chen failed to disclose his massive conflict of interest. Not only was Judge Chen nominated by Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein, whose driver turned out to be a literal CCP Chinese spy, but his wife Janet Lee Chen currently advises a foundation established by his mother that supports illegal aliens and open borders.
Chen, the first Chinese American Article III judge in the court’s 150-year history, comes from an extremely affluent family from communist China. Chen owns a large real estate company called Chen Properties LLC in San Francisco while also serving as a judge. His wife, Janet Lee Chen, a San Francisco socialite, engages in radical leftist causes, including advising the Rose T.Y. Chen Charitable Foundation, now part of the San Francisco Foundation, a radical pro-immigration, anti-Trump 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
This radical leftist judge should have recused himself from this case due to his and his wife’s close ties to a radical pro-immigrant, anti-American and openly anti-Trump nonprofit. Communist activist California judges are intentionally subverting the will of the people, acting as tyrants while they ignore our votes in an effort to carry out a JUDICIAL COUP against President Trump.
These radical judges who are participating in a judicial coup MUST be immediately IMPEACHED!
In a statement to Fox News, a DHS spokesperson responded to the ruling:
“For decades, the TPS program has been abused, exploited, and politicized as a de facto amnesty program. Its use has been all the more dangerous, given the millions of unvetted illegal aliens the Biden Administration let into this country.
“While this order delays justice, [DHS] Secretary [Kristi] Noem will use every legal option at the Department’s disposal to end this chaos and prioritize the safety of Americans. Under God, the people rule. Unelected activist judges cannot stop the will of the American people for a safe and secure homeland.”
