NEWS ALERT: International Olympics Committee announces decision on trans athletes in women’s events

From Breitbart: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has now made it clear that men who identify as women are not eligible to compete in its women’s sporting events, which aligns the Olympics with President Donald Trump’s Executive Order on sports ahead of the 2028 games in Los Angeles.

“Eligibility for any female category event at the Olympic Games or any other IOC event, including individual and team sports, is now limited to biological females,” the IOC said in a statement this week, according to the Associated Press.

The IOC said that the new policy will be in force for the 2028 games and added that the move “protects fairness, safety and integrity in the female category.”

However, the rule is not retroactive, won’t affect any records or athletes, and does not apply to grassroots or recreational sports.

The IOC announced the decision in a press release on Thursday.

IOC President Kirsty Coventry said in a video statement, “As a former athlete, I passionately believe in the rights of all Olympians to take part in fair competition. The policy that we have announced is based on science and has been led by medical experts. At the Olympic Games, even the smallest margins can be the difference between victory and defeat. So, it is absolutely clear that it would not be fair for biological males to compete in the female category. In addition, in some sports it would simply not be safe.”

“Every athlete must be treated with dignity and respect, and athletes will need to be screened only once in their lifetime. There must be clear education around the process and counseling available, alongside expert medical advice,” Coventry added.

Former college swimmer Riley Gaines mockingly wrote, “”Trans women” haven’t been banned from women’s sports. Men have. Hope this helps!”

The Independent Council on Women’s Sports reacted to the announcement, releasing the following statement:

Official statement: We are elated by the announcement from the International Olympic Committee to strengthen protections for the women’s category and ensure a level playing field for female athletes.

A genuine female category at all levels of sport is essential for fairness and for the continued participation of women and girls. When athletes compete on equal terms, it builds trust and inspires the next generation.

The simple, non-invasive measure of SRY screening offers a solution that is now essential to maintaining integrity across female competition.

This marks a return of female sport to elite female athletes in Olympic competition and reaffirms the importance of fairness, safety, and equal opportunity worldwide. We call upon the @NCAA to follow suit.
