Somalian refugee and progressive ‘Squad’ member Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) has gotten herself into some hot water over her disparaging comments about Charlie Kirk, and is now facing both a potential censure in Congress, as well as being stripped of her committee assignments.
From the Daily Caller: Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar could face serious consequences over her inflammatory remarks about Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk following his assassination on Wednesday.
Republican South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace unveiled a resolution on Monday that would formally censure Omar and strip the far-left “Squad” member of her committee assignments over her comments on Kirk’s slaying. Mace told reporters that she would file a privileged motion on Tuesday — meaning she will unilaterally force the House to vote on the measure as early as this week.
“She is inciting violence against conservatives in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s political assassination,” Mace said in a video filmed outside Omar’s office on Monday evening. “She is dehumanizing conservatives all across the country, calling Charlie Kirk a terrorist.”
“I’m not going to be silent on this because enough is enough,” Mace continued.

Mace also posted a copy of the resolution and wrote, “We’re filing a resolution to strip @Ilhan of her committee assignments after her disgraceful remarks on Charlie Kirk’s assassination.”

Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) has also introduced legislation to remove Omar from her two current committees: the House Budget Committee and the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.
In a post on X, Carter wrote, “Democrats, like Rep. Omar, are committed to doubling down on hateful rhetoric against American patriot Charlie Kirk. The radical left has normalized meeting free speech with violence, and we will not stand for it. Committees are a privilege for serious lawmakers, not hate-spewing politicians.”

Below is the podcast that has gotten Omar in trouble, when she spoke with Zeteo News’ Mehdi Hasan on Thursday.
Attacking the people who are memorializing Charlie Kirk after his assassination, Omar raged, “I think there are a lot of people out there talking about him just wanting to have a civil debate. There is nothing more f-ed up than to completely pretend that his words and actions have not been recorded and in existence for the last decade or so. These people are full of shit and it’s important for us to call them out!”
Defending herself, Omar wrote on X, “To those claiming they’re for free speech while punishing and silencing those for exercising that right: You’re not pro-free speech. 🤔.”

Mace has thrown Omar’s words back in her face, as she posted a screenshot of an old tweet from 2022 in which Omar wrote, “Does the First Amendment protect your freedom of speech? Yes! Does it protect you from being shamed or shunned by others? No! Bottom line, your opinions have consequences like everything else in life.”
