FROM THE HILL: The House on Wednesday voted to table a resolution brought forward by Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) to formally reprimand Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and remove her from her committee assignments after Mace alleged she “smeared Charlie Kirk and implied he was to blame for his own murder” in re-posting a video on social media.
Mace had forced action on the matter through a privileged resolution to censure Omar and strip her committee assignments, but Democrats moved to table the matter, thereby rejecting it.
The House voted 214-213 to table the resolution, with four Republicans voting with Democrats to defeat Mace’s anti-Omar effort.
Those four Republicans were Reps. Mike Flood (Neb.), Jeff Hurd (Colo.), Tom McClintock (Calif.) and Rep. Cory Mills (Fla.) who was facing a retaliatory censure and was the deciding vote at the last minute.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries excoriated Mace in a statement ahead of the vote.
“Nancy Mace is a complete and total disgrace. Her racist, unhinged and xenophobic comments about Congresswoman Ilhan Omar are beneath the dignity of the Congress. Is this what civility looks like in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives?” Jeffries said.
“We live in an era of intense political violence as we have seen with the recent assassinations of Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. Nancy Mace’s crazed rhetoric has put a target on the back of Rep. Omar. Mace must cease and desist her inciteful behavior immediately,” Jeffries said.
Mace released the following statement:
Tonight, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 214–213 to table Congresswoman Nancy Mace’s resolution to censure Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and strip her of all committee assignments following her indefensible comments mocking the cold-blooded assassination of Charlie Kirk.
210 Democrats and 4 Republicans (Mike Flood, Jeff Hurd, Tom McClintock, and Cory Mills) rushed to shield Omar from justice following her own actions.
“Tonight, 210 Democrats and 4 Republicans sold out and chose to protect Ilhan Omar, a woman who mocked the cold-blooded assassination of an innocent American husband and father, who has openly supported ISIS and the Muslim Brotherhood, and who has repeatedly incited political violence,” said Congresswoman Nancy Mace. “They didn’t stand with Charlie Kirk. They didn’t stand with the millions of Americans mourning his death. They stood with the one who mocked his legacy. They showed us exactly who they are, and we won’t forget.”
Just days after Kirk’s murder, Omar appeared on the Breaking Points podcast where she:
Claimed those saying “Charlie Kirk just wanted to have a civil debate” are “full of s—”.
Said there is “nothing more f—ed up than to pretend his words and actions have not been recorded” over the past decade.
Dismissed the grief of millions as “complete rewriting of history”.
Omar also reposted a video calling Charlie Kirk a “stochastic terrorist” and a “reprehensible human being,” doubling down on her attacks while his family was still planning his memorial.
Rep. Mace’s resolution would have:
Formally censured Rep. Ilhan Omar before the full House of Representatives.
Required her to stand in the well of the House chamber as the censure is read aloud.
Stripped her of committee assignments on the House Education and Workforce Committee and the House Budget Committee.

Ilhan Omar said it herself: actions have consequences. Time to live by it, @IlhanMN. We’ve filed a resolution to censure her and strip her committee assignments.

Ilhan Omar reposted this video right after Charlie Kirk’s assassination, smearing a 31-year-old husband and father as a “stochastic terrorist” and a “reprehensible human being.”

Free speech isn’t free from consequences. Tomorrow, we are filing a PRIVILEGED motion to censure Ilhan Omar and remove her from her committees. This will force a vote.

Ilhan Omar has shown us exactly who she is: she defends political violence and refuses to condemn the loss of innocent lives when it doesn’t suit her agenda, even the cold-blooded assassination of Charlie Kirk.
Its dangerous, disgraceful, and beneath the United States Congress.… pic.twitter.com/QEmmp6wsTf
