NEWS ALERT: GOP Rep in Florida to retire from Congress

2

From The Hill: Rep. Neal Dunn (R-Fla.) said Tuesday he would retire from Congress, forgoing a reelection bid and further weakening the Republican House majority.

“After much prayerful consideration and discussion with my family, I have decided not to seek re-election to the United States House of Representatives. This will conclude my service after five meaningful terms representing the people of Florida’s Second Congressional District…” Dunn, 72, wrote in a post on the social platform X.

“The time has come to pass the torch to new conservative leaders, return home to Panama City, and spend more precious time with my family and our beloved grandchildren. I am deeply grateful for your trust, support, and prayers over these years,” he added.

Dunn first won his seat in the U.S. Congress in the 2016 election, and was easily re-elected every two years. He won over 64% of the vote in the 2024 election. He is an Army veteran, a medical doctor and a surgeon.

The 2nd Congressional District of Florida is located in the middle of the state’s north “panhandle,” and includes Tallahassee, the state capital, and Panama City. It is a widely conservative district.
