NEWS ALERT: Former IRS contractor who leaked Trump tax returns did far more damage than previously known

From Fox Business: The ex-IRS contractor who was responsible for leaking President Donald Trump’s tax returns also divulged information about more than 405,000 other filers, the agency revealed to the House Judiciary Committee earlier this month.

Charles Littlejohn, who is serving a five-year prison sentence in Florida for leaking the president’s tax returns to ProPublica and The New York Times, pleaded guilty to one count of the unauthorized disclosure of return information even though the leak involved the disclosure of thousands of filers.

Last year, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, opened an investigation into the DOJ’s “unusual and questionable leniency” towards Littlejohn following his prison sentence.

“The Department’s decision to pursue just one charge for ‘thousands’ of separate criminal acts is highly concerning, and we worry that the Department’s decision may be politically motivated,” Jordan wrote in a letter to Nicole Argentierti, the DOJ’s then acting assistant attorney general of its criminal division.

At the time, Jordan wrote he was only aware of Littlejohn leaking information belonging to 7,600 Americans. He requested information on the full scale of the leaks and the IRS responded with updated numbers in a Feb. 14 letter to Jordan.

Now the IRS has informed Jordan that there were actually 405,427 taxpayers whose data was leaked, and they have all been notified by email.  But the Biden DOJ allowed him to please guilty to only one count.

Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla. were among the individuals on the list whose tax information was leaked.

Prosecutors said that Littlejohn worked for Booz Allen from 2008 to 2013, but he returned to the company as an IRS consultant in 2017, for the sole purpose of getting access to Trump’s tax returns, in order to leak the information.

In January 2024, Littlejohn was sentenced to five years in prison.

The House Judiciary GOP announced Tuesday:

New disclosure reveals that the Biden IRS leaked taxpayer information of over 405,000 Americans — including President Trump’s. The IRS’s admission confirms the Committee’s suspicion and recent reports that show the scope of the leak was much broader than what the Biden Administration’s IRS initially led the public to believe.

In May 2024, an IRS spokesman stated that “[m]ore than 70,000” taxpayers were affected. We found out that it’s actually over 405,000 taxpayers! This is a MASSIVE scandal. @Jim_Jordan first launched his inquiry into these leaks last year. Getting answers for the American people!

Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk responded, “Unbelievable!! All the outrage and hysterics about Elon Musk and DOGE accessing sensitive information while the IRS all on its own gets caught red handed leaking taxpayer info of over 405,000 Americans—all without Elon’s help!! Will MSM even feign curiosity?”

Prior to his sentencing, author Peter Schweizer wrote, “Former IRS contractor Charles Edward Littlejohn, who stole and helped publicize the confidential tax records of Donald Trump and an estimated 7,500 other wealthy Americans, could face little or no jail time when he’s sentenced later this month, because the DOJ allowed him to plead guilty to a single felony count.”
