Multiple former Republican presidential candidates have all released statements on social media, in reaction to the horrific assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump on Saturday evening.

Trump was speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania when shots suddenly rang out. Trump grabbed his ear and dived to the floor. Miraculously, he only received a minor injury, as a bullet grazed his ear. Secret Service agents quickly rushed to the stage to attend to Trump, and get him off the stage. He was seen being ushered away, with blood on his ear and on his face.

The shooter was then killed. A rally attendee was also killed, and two others are reportedly critically injured.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis simply wrote, “.@CaseyDeSantis and I are praying for Donald Trump and his family.”

Former VP Mike Pence wrote, “Karen and I are praying for President Trump and urge every American to join us.”

Nikki Haley wrote: “This should horrify every freedom loving American. Violence against presidential candidates must never be normalized. We are lifting up Donald Trump, the entire Trump family, and all in attendance in prayer.”

North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum wrote in a social media post, “Please join Kathryn and me in praying for President Trump, his family and everyone attending the rally today in Pennsylvania.”

Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy posted the following statement:

First they sued him. Then they prosecuted him. Then they tried to take him off the ballot. The only thing more tragic than what just happened is that, if we’re being honest, it wasn’t totally a shock. Biden’s inevitable ritual condemnation of political violence today (when it comes) will be insufficient and irrelevant. No amount of verbiage today changes the toxic national climate that led to this tragedy.

Apoorva and I mourn for the rally attendee who was apparently killed by the shooter. We believe the fact that President Trump is safe right now is nothing short of an act of God. My heart tells me God intervened not just for Trump, but for our nation. Today, the future survival of the United States of America came down to less than a hair’s width in the path of a bullet.

If any good comes of today, let it be this: Americans just had the chance to see our next President’s true character, unvarnished. He took the fire, he took the hit, he felt the blood, and then he stood right back up for the people he was put here to lead.

Regardless of who you vote for, let’s unite around the TRUTH that what happened today is unacceptable, now and forever. May we all remember Thomas Jefferson’s words 225 years ago:

“A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over, their spells dissolve, and the people, recovering their true sight, restore their government to its true principles. It is true that in the meantime we are suffering deeply in spirit, and incurring the horrors of a war and long oppressions…And if we feel their power just sufficiently to hoop us together, it will be the happiest situation in which we can exist. If the game runs sometimes against us, we must have patience till luck turns, and then we shall have an opportunity of winning back the principles we have lost, for this is a game where principles are at stake.”

Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson wrote, “The assassination attempt on former President Trump is an attack on democracy. My prayers are with President Trump and others impacted I am grateful for all the first responders investigating this act of terror.”

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie wrote, “Prayers for President Trump and anyone else who was injured at today’s rally in Pennsylvania. Violence towards people in the political arena is disgraceful, tragic and never justified.”

Sen. Tim Scott wrote, “Praying for President Trump and everyone at the rally in Pennsylvania. May God watch over them all 🙏🏾.”

In a second post, Scott added, “Congressman Scalise, Justice Kavanaugh, and now President Trump. For years, Democrats and their allies in the media have recklessly stoked fears, calling President Trump and other conservatives threats to democracy. Their inflammatory rhetoric puts lives at risk.”

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who is running for president as an Independent, wrote, “Now is the time for every American who loves our country to step back from the division, renounce all violence, and unite in prayer for President Trump and his family.”

OTHER STATEMENTS:

Former HUD director and potential Trump running mate Ben Carson wrote, “They tried to bankrupt him. They tried to slander him. They tried to imprison him. Now they have tried to kill him, but if God is protecting him, they will never succeed.”

In another post, Carson wrote, “It has been 45 minutes and not a peep from President Biden or the White House.”

“Praying for President Trump. Praying for the future of our nation,” Carson also wrote.
