From New York Post: Authorities are investigating whether terrorism played a role in a large explosion that obliterated a fertility clinic and IVF lab in Palm Springs, California, on Saturday, a local official said.
The explosion may have left one person dead, said officials who had yet to confirm the fatality.
The blast likely came from a car parked outside American Reproductive Centers, the Palm Springs Police Department told the Desert Sun.
The cause of the blast, which was initially reported at about 11 a.m., is unknown.
“We’re still trying to determine a cause,” Mayor Ron DeHarte told The Post. “The police and fire are down there right now. First, we heard it might be a helicopter crash or a gas leak but that’s been ruled out. We should know pretty quickly what it was. There was quite a bit of damage to surrounding buildings as well.”
Lt. William Hutchinson confirmed, “Everything is in question, whether this is an act of terrorism,” according to the Sun.

Damage was done to nearby buildings as well, including Desert Regional Medical Center, Denny’s, and Palm Springs Liquor, KESQ reports.
Officials from DRCM issued a statement:
“On Saturday morning an explosion occurred at an unaffiliated office building across the street from Desert Regional Medical Center. Hospital staff is cooperating with police as they investigate the cause. Our emergency department remains open and our hospital is fully operational. We are temporarily asking visitors to refrain from coming to the hospital as police have limited access to the road in front of our campus. Some windows were broken in a medical office building directly facing the explosion. Hospital operations have not been affected.”
