NEWS ALERT: Conservatives firing back with fierce warning over GOP senator’s reluctance to support Hegseth

Republican Senator Joni Ernst is being called on the carpet by conservatives over her reluctance to support Trump’s nominee Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense.

In a Fox News interview Thursday on “America’s Newsroom,” Ernst declined to fully support Hegseth, but only declared that the vetting process needs to continue.

“I did have a very long, lengthy discussion with Pete yesterday,” she said. “I appreciate his service to the nation. I, too, am also a combat veteran. So we talked about a number of those issues and will continue with the vetting process. I think that is incredibly important. So again, all I’m saying is we had a very frank and productive discussion. And I know we will continue to have conversation in the upcoming months.”

Ernst pointed to the allegations that have surfaced about Hegseth and said, “So again, all I will say at this time is we did have a very thorough discussion over a number of those issues. And the vetting will continue, I am certain, through the next month or so until we approach that hearing date.”

Conservative host Mark Levin announced, “Joni Ernst & Lindsey Graham working overtime to derail President Trump’s nomination of Pete Hegseth for SecDef. I am told that Joni Ernst is the ringleader seeking to derail Pete Hegseth’s nomination by President Trump for Defense Secretary. She has worked to organize Republican opposition in the Senate and deny Hegseth a rollcall vote on his nomination. All she needs is 4 or 5 Republicans to go along with her. She has also been involved in a press campaign against Hegseth. Lindsey Graham has also lobbied hard against Hegseth.”

Podcaster Benny Johnson posted screenshots of two social media posts from Ernst.

On January 22, 2021, Ernst announced, “Today I voted to confirm Lloyd Austin to be the next Secretary of Defense. As a member of @SASCGOP, I will work with SecDef Austin & hold him accountable to help prevent sexual assault in the military, ensure our troops are supported, & to curb wasteful spending @DeptofDefense.”

But when it comes to Trump’s nominee, Pete Hegseth, Ernst only wrote on Wednesday, “I appreciate Pete Hegseth’s service to our country, something we both share. Today, as part of the confirmation process, we had a frank and thorough conversation.”

“Just a friendly reminder to all the GOP Senators: If you voted for Lloyd Austin but don’t support Pete Hegseth, you are abandoning your voters. Don’t dare call yourself a Republican. The world is watching,” Johnson warned.

Ernst’s post about Hegseth on Wednesday has gotten over 15,000 comments, as conservatives are warning that she will be primaried in the same way former Rep. Liz Cheney was if she doesn’t vote to approve Hegseth.

Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk blasted out a video from the past, as Ernst touted support for having transgenders in the military.

“Here is Joni Ernst praising trans in the military. She says she wants a 🏳️‍⚧️ fighting force. Maybe this is why she’s leading the charge against Hegseth?People in Iowa have a well-funded primary challenger ready against her. Her political career is in serious jeopardy,” Kirk warned.

Journalist Savannah Hernandez laid it all out. She wrote:

This morning Iowa Senator, Joni Ernst, made the horrible mistake of still refusing to confirm support of Pete Hegseth’s nomination. Since then we’ve discovered she:

-Voted to confirm Lloyd Austin for Secretary of Defense (responsible for the horrific Afghanistan withdrawal, enforced Biden’s unconstitutional military vaccine mandate, made our military an LGBTQ joke)
-Supports transgender soldiers in the military
-Votes with Democrats 38% of the time
-Called for the U.S. to send more money and weapons to Ukraine/called Zelensky an “inspirational leader”
-Had an affair with one of her servicemen while deployed, according to her divorce papers

She now has the full force of independent media, lawyers and political commentators on X planning to primary her in 2026. Welcome to the new right.

Oh boy… here’s another!  Journalist Nick Sortor posted a flashback video of Ernst actually suggesting Republicans need a “fresh start” instead of re-electing Donald Trump.

“FLASHBACK: Joni Ernst is a backstabbing RINO, who wanted to MOVE ON from President Trump as recently as last year. It’s no wonder she’s trying to sink nominees like Pete Hegseth now. I can’t WAIT to join @charliekirk11, @TheLeoTerrell, and @ScottPresler in Iowa to primary her…,” Sortor wrote.

“Being told Joni Ernst and Lindsay Graham are trying to end Pete Hegseth. This is a direct attempt to undermine the President and his voters. Pete Hegseth is the redline. If you vote against him, primaries will ensue,” Kirk declared.

X user End Wokeness also posted some important reminders:

“Sen. Joni Ernst voted to CONFIRM Joe Biden’s worst picks such as Garland, Buttigieg, Lloyd Austin, and Yellen. Yet she might NOT back Hegseth. Iowa is a Trump +13 state.”

“Joni Ernst supported and funded all the nonsense on the left. She wants to destroy the person on the right. Why is that?” asked Sean Davis, co-founder of The Federalist.

Libs of TikTok wrote, “Senator Joni Ernst (R) voted to confirm Lloyd Austin for Secretary of Defense who turned our military into a woke laughingstock but is refusing to say if she will confirm Pete Hegseth.

“So she supports all this trash but doesn’t support a strong Conservative who will strengthen our military and hold the DC war machine accountable?”

“She’s jealous. She wants the job,” suggested Juanita Broaddrick.

Charlie Kirk also suggested that Ernst is dragging her feet over Hegseth because she wants the job of Defense Secretary herself.

Sean Davis of The Federalist wrote, “Ernst’s deranged and dishonest jihad against Hegseth suggests her opposition goes way beyond ideology. She needs to be honest with the American people, and Iowa voters who overwhelmingly voted for Trump, about the *real* reason she seems to oppose any Pentagon reform.”
