From Fox News: A South African national who illegally entered the U.S. landed a “positive match” on the terrorist watchlist leading to his “swift” arrest in New York City.

According to U.S. Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens, the unidentified South African national was initially detained in Texas for criminal trespassing, but was released.

A Texas Department of Public Safety official confirmed to Fox News that the migrant was first arrested on a ranch near Eagle Pass in September, then they turned him over to federal border patrol who released him.

His arrest, alongside 36 other illegal migrants, was documented and shared on social media by Lt. Chris Olivarez, the spokesperson for the Texas DPS. Olivarez said that among the group were special interest illegal immigrants from Turkey, Pakistan, India and Vietnam.

“Among the group were special interest illegal immigrants from Turkey, Pakistan, India, & Vietnam. The group from Turkey stated they each paid $12K to cross the Rio Grande & were destined for New Jersey to meet with a sponsor,” Olivarez had announced on Sept. 20.

The next day, Olivarez sounded the alarm, writing:

UPDATE – TERROR SCREENING ALERT: Yesterday, @TxDPS Troopers arrested 15 illegal immigrants for criminal trespass in Normandy. After screening & jail booking procedures, Troopers received an alert from the Terror Screening Center (TSC) regarding one of the males from South Africa, Umar Farooq Ashraf, as a SUBJECT MAY BE THE SPOUSE OR CHILD OF A KNOWN OR SUSPECTED TERRORIST.

Farooq remains in state custody for charges of criminal trespass. DPS will conduct a follow-up investigation on the details surrounding the TSC alert.

However, when they turned Farooq over to the federal agents, he was set free into the United States. The feds then recently had to scramble to find him after learning that he was, indeed, on the terror watch list.

Tuesday afternoon, Owens announced:

“A multi-agency effort led to the arrest of a South African national and suspected terrorist in Brooklyn, NY. Initially detained in Texas for criminal trespassing and based on information available at the time, the individual was released.

“A further subsequent investigation revealed a positive match on the terrorist watchlist, prompting swift action by USBP agents and personnel at the National Targeting Center. Thanks to the coordination of multiple agencies, this potential threat was located, taken into custody, and is now pending removal.”

FLASHBACK: Kamala Harris brazenly claimed it’s the “height of irresponsibility” to suggest “that we have to build a wall across our southern border because there are terrorists who are trying to invade the country. It couldn’t be farther from the truth.”
