NEW LOCATION: Red state governor announces destination for Trump’s presidential library

President Trump’s presidential library is expected to be built in South Florida, with Florida’s Cabinet and governor set to vote next week on offering downtown Miami land for the project.

The proposed site, currently a Miami-Dade College parking lot adjacent to the historic Freedom Tower, would host the state’s first presidential library center. The vote follows a Tuesday morning meeting, where the Miami-Dade College board quickly approved transferring the 2.63-acre site. Soon after, Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has worked to brand Florida as the center of the MAGA agenda, introduced his proposal for a vote by Sept. 30.

“President Trump has achieved results for the American people and made a lasting impact on our nation’s history,” he said in a statement.

The foundation had weighed sites at Florida International University in Miami and Florida Atlantic University near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club before settling on Miami Dade College. The campus is about 12 miles from Trump National Doral, where he plans to host next year’s G20 Summit.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, one of four officials voting next week, posted on X that he had helped with the library project and planned to back it. Uthmeier, eyeing Trump’s endorsement, is preparing a 2026 run for a full term as attorney general.

“I can think of no better location to tell the story of Donald Trump — a story of strength, one of redemption, one of victory and one of sacrifice to the American people” he said in a promotional video about how the state will be setting the land aside for the library.

Florida lawmakers passed a DeSantis-backed bill blocking local rules that might hinder the library, though Miami-Dade’s recent GOP shift makes opposition unlikely. By contrast, Trump lost Democrat-heavy Palm Beach County, home to FAU. The foundation behind the project can already accept funds from political committees, lobbyists, and foreign governments, though tax-deductible donations require IRS approval.

Most donations aren’t public, though contributors can announce them, and political committees and lobbyists must file disclosures. The foundation already has tens of millions from Meta and ABC News settlements, and a luxury 747 gifted by Qatar may eventually be displayed at the library.
