While speaking to reporters during a roundtable discussion at the White House on Thursday, President Donald Trump announced that a secret billionaire has just sent a huge check to help pay U.S. troops their salaries during the government shutdown.
This comes on the same day that Senate Democrats literally blocked the GOP-backed Shutdown Fairness Act, which would have paid active-duty military and essential federal workers during the government shutdown.
Only three Democrats – Sens. Jon Ossoff (D-GA), Raphael Warnock (D-GA), and John Fetterman (D-PA) – crossed the aisle to support the measure. However, the bill failed, 54-45.
Trump told reporters at the roundtable discussion that a friend of his had called the other day and said he’d like to contribute if there’s any shortfall to pay the military, because of the Democrat shutdown.
“Today he sent us a check for $130 MILLION,” Trump said.
When reporters asked who the mystery donor is, Trump said his friend deserves the recognition, but doesn’t really want it and hasn’t given permission for his name to be used.
