Proverbs 10:2

Ill-gotten treasures have no lasting value,
but righteousness delivers from death.

[From the New International Version]

This verse, found in Proverbs 10:2, shows the difference between dishonest wealth and the benefits of living a good life. It tells us that money or possessions gained through cheating or wrongdoing won’t last and won’t bring true happiness.

In contrast, living righteously—being honest and morally good—brings real and lasting benefits, even saving us from harm or death. This means that a righteous life leads to true fulfillment and protection. The verse encourages us to choose honesty and virtue over dishonesty and corruption because only righteousness brings lasting value and safety.
