Romans 5:7-8

Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person,
though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

[New International Version]

This verse exemplifies the extraordinary nature of God’s love for humanity.

It begins by noting that it is uncommon for someone to sacrifice their life even for a righteous or morally upright person, though some might consider dying for someone especially good or noble.

However, God’s love surpasses human understanding because Christ sacrificed Himself not for the righteous or good, but for sinners who were estranged from Him. This act demonstrates God’s unconditional and selfless love, as He offered salvation to humanity while they were still undeserving.

The verse reflects the depth of grace and mercy central to our faith.
