Psalm 13:1-3
1 How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and day after day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?
3 Look on me and answer, Lord my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death
When Prayers Go Unanswered
In these verses, David is on his face, overwhelmed with grief and hopelessness. In the first two verses of Psalm 13, David rejects everything but his own thoughts and needs.
When we are reacting to hard times, we often turn away from God and try to create an outcome or lash out in out flesh rather than asking God what He is trying to teach us.
We see later in these verses that David chooses to end his downward spiral of sorrow and seek God.
In 13:1. David sees God as far away and unconcerned. But in 13:3, he asks if God would “consider and answer” him, addressing the Lord as “my God,” in a a more personal tone as he seems to recognize that God is close and invested.
God assures us that when we shed our pride, He will find us.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your patience and wisdom. Help us to remember to cast our fears and worries on You, and to be patient, quiet, and obedient as we await Your direction and answer. In Jesus name we humbly pray, AMEN.
