THE TESTING OF FAITH

Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”

Chapter/Genesis 22:1-2

The-LORD-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the LORD it shall be provided.”

Genesis 22:14

Abraham’s faith was greatly tested. After learning he would be a father at long last, indeed the father of many nations, he was elated. Then, God called him to sacrifice that precious promise. But with knife in hand, Abraham was ready to be obedient. What’s more is that Isaac, who was by this tine a grown man, also trustingly submitted himself to the will of his father. Yet our loving father in Heaven did not really require a human sacrifice, and He sent an angel to stop it.

2000 years later, Jesus submitted Himself to the will of His Father and died for us. God’s only Son, became a willing sacrifice to wash away our sins.

It mirrors Abraham’s story – the father, the son, and the wood upon which the son would be sacrificed.

Everything is within God’s plan.

Dear Father in Heaven, thank You for Your plan. Help us to be strong in our faith, to have total trust in You alone, and to seek Your refuge and comfort. We desire to have the kind of faith in You that leads us to obedience that is pleasing to You. We don’t want to fail You – we want t be Your hands and feet. Forgive us for our past weakness and make us strong warriors for Your glory. In Jesus’ name we pray, AMEN.
