Honoring Courage, Sacrifice, and Faith
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
John 15:13 (NIV)
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’”
Isaiah 6:8 (NIV)
On Veterans Day, we pause to honor the men and women who have worn the uniform of our nation—those who stood watch in distant lands, faced danger in the line of duty, and carried the weight of freedom on their shoulders.
Their service reflects the kind Jesus describes: a willingness to sacrifice for others. Soldier sacrifice greatly, and may returned changed. Some never return at all.
Their stories, etched in medals, memories, and quiet moments of reflection, remind us that freedom is not free. It is purchased with courage and honored by gratitude.
Yet, as people of faith, we see an even deeper truth. The sacrifice of veterans points us to the ultimate sacrifice of Christ, who laid down His life not for a nation, but for all humanity.
Their service echoes His love, reminding us to live with purpose, to protect the vulnerable, and to cherish the peace so many fought to secure.
May we, like our veterans, answer the call to serve with faith and courage.
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for the brave men and women who have served our country with honor and valor. Bless those who have returned, granting them peace, healing, and strength for the battles they still face. Comfort the families who mourn those who gave their lives. Lord, stir in us a spirit of gratitude and responsibility. Help us to honor their sacrifice by living lives of integrity, compassion, and unity. May we never take for granted the freedoms they defended. Guide our nation’s leaders with wisdom, and let Your peace reign in our hearts and in our world. In the name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer, we pray. AMEN.
