Rest, My Soul
“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.”
Psalm 62:5 (NIV
Have you ever caught yourself speaking to your own heart? In the middle of anxiety, uncertainty, or relentless pressure, the noise inside can feel deafening. David does exactly that in Psalm 62. He turns inward and issues a gentle but firm command to his soul: “Yes, my soul, find rest in God.”
David seems to be saying, “Despite everything pulling at me—enemies whispering, circumstances pressing, my own thoughts racing—yes, even so, my soul must rest in God alone.” This is deliberate redirection. David refuses to let his soul settle anywhere else.
The rest he describes is not the absence of trouble but the presence of security. When everything feels like it’s on sinking sand, God remains immovable. David calls Him his rock, salvation, and fortress (vv. 6–7), because God doesn’t change.
Here is the beautiful promise: “My hope comes from Him.” Not from better circumstances, not from human solutions, not from our own cleverness or grit. Hope flows from God Himself.
When we anchor our expectations in Him, they cannot be disappointed, because He is faithful. Let that truth settle deeper than your feelings. Let it quiet any inner storm. He is your refuge and your only true resting place.
Lord, thank you for being my Rock. My soul is restless until it rests in You. Forgive me for looking to other sources for peace and hope. Today I deliberately choose to find rest in You alone. You will be my solid ground when everything else feels unsteady. Renew my hope from the endless well of Your faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
