Finding Peace Amid The Holiday Rush

But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content.

Psalm 131:2 (NIV)

The holiday season often brings a flurry of activities—shopping lists, social gatherings, travel plans, and year-end deadlines. It’s easy to become overwhelmed, feeling pulled in countless directions. Amid this hustle, Psalm 131:2 offers a precious reminder of the peace and contentment we can find in God.

King David, despite his many responsibilities, speaks of deliberately calming and quieting his soul. He likens his heart to a weaned child with its mother—no longer crying out for immediate needs but resting securely in the relationship itself. This image invites us to shift our focus from the chaos of our to-do lists to the comforting presence of our Heavenly Father.

This holiday season, take intentional moments to pause. Breathe in God’s peace. Let go of anxieties about perfect gifts, flawless decorations, or packed schedules. Like a weaned child, find contentment not in circumstances but in the steadfast love of God that never changes.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for being my Rock and Strength. Remind me to be calm and thankful for every second that I live. You have provided for my needs, and You are a refuge for my worries. In the midst of the holiday rush, help me to be calm and quiet my heart. Teach me to rest in Your presence, finding contentment not in what I do, but in who You are. In Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN.
