Thoughts and Actions
May my spoken words and unspoken thoughts be pleasing even to you, O Lord my Rock and my Redeemer.
Psalm 19:14 (TLB)
In the days of Noah, God looked upon the earth saw that “every intention of the thoughts of man’s heart was only evil continually” (Genesis 6:5), and it grieved Him. The flood that followed was not merely punishment for outward deeds; it was judgment on a world that had become corrupt.
Today, people still dream of sin, linger over lust, rehearse revenge, and feed on envy. We let our imaginings become stained with corruption, but sin is conceived in the womb of the mind long before it is birthed into the world by the hands.
The enemy is subtle; he cannot force you to sin, but he can flash lewd images across the theater of your imagination. He can slip impurity into a song lyric, a scene, a joke, a memory, a careless click. And if you linger—if you allow those pictures to stay—they will take root, and what is only imagined today becomes the act tomorrow.
If the fountain isn’t pure, the stream will be polluted, and the Holy One, who searches minds and hearts, will know
That is why in this Psalm, David pleads not only for clean words but for a clean inner life: “Let… the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight.”
O Lord, You who see every secret motion of my heart, have mercy on me. Cleanse the thoughts of my heart by the inspiration of Your Holy Spirit. Do not let my imagination become a playground for the enemy or a workshop for sin. Make the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart pleasing in Your sight today and every day. In Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN.
