Isaiah 7:14 – Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Isaiah 9:6 – For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
It’s easy to get caught up in all the festivities, decorations, shopping and parties around the Christmas season, and only remember Jesus as an afterthought.
But the birth of the Savior of the world was under very humble circumstances, on a very Holy Night. It was God’s promise fulfilled, providing hope and salvation for all who would accept and love Him.
Just a bit of trivia…. the above scriptures from Isaiah were prophecies of Jesus’ coming… estimated to be about 700 to 750 years before Jesus was born. It’s so reassuring to think that God gave Isaiah this prophecy so many years in advance, and then, when the time was right, God’s promise became reality.
May we never lose faith in the promises of God, and never doubt His word or His power. God has also promised that Jesus will return, and those who love Him and believe in Him will then be gathered to spend all eternity with Him. We don’t know exactly when that time will come, but we know God’s timing is always perfect.
Until then, we remember and honor the birth of Jesus, and the night God sent Him to the world to be our Light, our Teacher, and our Redeemer.
