Romans 8:25–28 (NIV)
But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.
(Commentary by Kat L.)
On this lovely Sunday morning, let’s focus on a passage that tells us what to do when things don’t seem to be going our way. The passage tells us to lean on God.
When something unexpected unfolds, it’s not time to panic, fight, or doubt God’s love. Instead, we wait and persevere.
The Bible says we groan at times like this, without the words to express the trouble in our soul, but God does not leave us alone in this weakness. The Holy Spirit interprets our groans, taking these deep expressions of our needs to a God who fully understands them. The Spirit carries our heart’s desires straight to Him, aligning our prayers with His will.
As trouble descends, pray to God and express that you trust Him. Even in our weakness and fear, when we don’t know what to say, The Spirit’s prayers for us are always in perfect harmony with God’s purposes—so even when we feel lost, our prayers are being made perfect through Him. He will hold us up as we wait for the solution with submissive humility, determination, and faith.
Recognize that our sovereign God has a plan for our good and His glory. No matter the trial, confusion, or waiting, God is weaving all things together for our benefit. When we wait in faith to see His plan unfold, we see that nothing is wasted—every joy and every pain is part of His plan, as we are transformed to be more like Christ.
We don’t hope for things we already possess, but for what God has promised—eternal life, resurrection, redemption, and the fullness of His kingdom.
Dear Lord Jesus, we thank you for the lessons in the Bible, for Your unwavering love for us, and for Your wisdom in all things. Help us to learn to wait, be humble, have faith, and submit to Your will as we navigate the world with its sin and challenges. Forgive us for being impatient, for demanding to have things our way, and for losing sight of You. Bless us, Holy Spirit, and guide us to a deeper relationship with God. Let us abide in Him all of our days. In Jesus’ name we pray, AMEN.
