SUPPORTING MISSIONARIES

23 David replied, “No, my brothers, you must not do that with what the Lord has given us. He has protected us and delivered into our hands the raiding party that came against us. 24 Who will listen to what you say? The share of the man who stayed with the supplies is to be the same as that of him who went down to the battle. All will share alike.” 25 David made this a statute and ordinance for Israel from that day to this.

–1 Samuel 30:23-25

David told his soldiers to remember that God blessed them with everything they got back, including the people they rescued. He stressed how important it was for those who stayed behind, just as important as those who fought.

David’s words are like missions. Churches help missionaries by praying and giving them money, just like they support them in battle. They’re all part of the same body of Christ, working together on the mission. Some people are called to go on missions, while others stay home and support them. We all share in the rewards of the mission.

When people share the message of Jesus on the mission field, many people get saved.

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for giving us a life of variety where we all have different strengths and gifts. Help us to recognize the gifts of others, to support them with our gifts, and to do our part to spread the message of salvation as is our Great Commission. Forgive us for our sins and bring us ever closer to You. In our Savior’s name we pray, AMEN.
