THE CREATOR OF ALL WANTS TO HELP YOU
I lift up my eyes to the hills— from where will my help come? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth
– PSALM 121:1–2
The key Hebrew word for “helper” is ezer (עזר), a noun referring to a powerful, active source of aid, support, and rescue.
The word ezer is most often used to describe God, and in our lives this is of the utmost importance. He is not a passive assistant. He is a powerful Helper, just as He is our savior and deliverer.
There is nothing we can do today without His help. We don’t have food, water, peace, strength, joy, or hope without His help. God is the Helper who has made us the people we are – the devoted spouse, parent, son, daughter, friend, worker, and citizen. He is the force behind everything, and the reason we do any good at all.
When we hit our knees, something truly powerful happens. As we lift our eyes to Heaven and open our hearts to communion with our Creator, we are declaring our understanding that we are dependent creatures, and that our God, who created all of Heaven and Earth, wants to help us.
Every good thing comes from God, and we need Him every day. The beauty of Psalm 121 is that it tells us we have it. We have the ultimate support system: the Lord.
Dear Lord of Heaven, the God who created everything we see, thank You for being our loving Helper every single day. Give us a heart of humility and a willingness to reach out for help. We are all dependent on You, our Savior and provider. We trust Your wisdom and provision on this day and for all our days to come. Grant us Your guidance, strength, joy, and peace. Forgive us for our transgressions. Let us be pleasing to You. In Jesus’ name we pray, AMEN.
