James 3:13

Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? Let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

[King James version]

Commentary from Anneta G.

The Bible talks a lot about wisdom, and encourages us to seek wisdom from God, not from our own human reasoning. God’s wisdom will never lead us in the wrong direction, but if we’re only relying on our own ‘wisdom’, we often end up making mistakes.

This scripture emphasizes the need for “meekness of wisdom.” True wisdom is never proud or arrogant. Godly wisdom often comes quietly, but in strength. Its influence is powerful, and effective.

Proverbs 11:2 – “When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.”

Proverbs 13:10 – “Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.”

Meekness is not weakness, and it is not the absence of courage. It’s simply evidence that we’ve allowed God to take charge of our lives, which means we have all the power and wisdom of Heaven on our side!

May the Lord help us today to possess more of His wisdom, in the spirit of meekness and sincerity.
