John 15:4-5
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
[King James version]
Both these verses stress the importance of a two-fold relationship with our Heavenly Father….. “Abide in me, and I in you.” And again, “He that abideth in me, and I in him…”
A branch is part of a vine…. but the life from the vine flows into the branch. Again, it’s a two-fold relationship. And if the branch is cut off, the source of life is cut off. It dies, and can no longer produce fruit.
It’s so clear that we are nothing without the Lord. Life is meaningless, and fruitless.
“Heavenly Father, help us to stay close to You today, to abide in Your love and grace. And help us to always give You first place in our hearts and lives, that Your presence will abide in us at all times. For Jesus’ sake we pray, Amen.”
